the best costume for the day

July 28th, 2009 — 1:25pm

And now for the eccentricities of the upper crust. I always think of little Edie from the 1975 Documentary, Grey Gardens, whenever I have to try and make a fashionable impression. Having just a touch of social anxiety, this can often be time consuming for me.

If you haven’t seen Grey Gardens, you can rent it from any ‘arty’ video rental place. A fascinating film about ‘big and little’ Edith Bouvier, the eccentric aunt and cousin of Jaqueline Kennedy Onasis. The film inspired a Broadway play and recently an HBO film as well as an entire line by fashion designer Tod Oldham.

I am overwhelmed by the doll and painting inspirations that little Edith provides.

These two pieces, along with another doll and two flower paintings (just cause I felt like it) are listed on Ebay this week. You can click on the ebay auctions link to view them.

Bye for now, time to get behind the mule and plow.

dancing outlaws

July 19th, 2009 — 5:41pm

My friend Peggy knows I am a fan of the 1975 cult documentary film, ‘Grey Gardens’ and sent me a link to a new film of the same genre called ‘The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia’. Jesco, the dancing outlaw is a member of that family and I was entertained by this clip. You can google the interview with the film maker, Julien Nitzberg. it looks like an honest portrayal of their lives and so therefore a tad rough around the edges and I’m sure to ruffle some feathers! When the film is available, I will brace myself, take a walk on the wild side and go see it.

Next week, after you’ve had a chance to rest up, I’ll post a clip from Grey Gardens. Eccentricities from the lower crust to the upper crust.

All of these things somehow inspire a doll or painting at some point down the road.

Peace and health care for all.

From the Late Show fun fact book:

‘The chicken preceded the egg by nearly 3 minutes’

I learn something new every day
