A friend told me about this NPR link to a Tom Waits concert. I’ve really been been enjoying it and a bunch of other live concerts on that site. You can also download the podcast for them as well. I love the poetry in his lyrics. At one point between songs, he tells a story and starts with “I’ve always been a word guy . . “ Man, I’ll say. Anyway, just in case you are a fan as well, here is the link:

When you get blue and you’ve lost all your dreams, there’s nothing like a campfire and a can of beans. – from the Tom Waits song, Lucky Day
Lordy Lordy Lordy Miss Lottie. This doll will be listed on Ebay Wednesday the 19th along with a couple other dolls and three paintings.
Ugh. They’re baaaack with their greatest hits, peddling fear and greasing the wheels of the hate machine. How does a powerful insurance lobby get people to work so hard against their own best interest and make fools out of themselves doing it? Apparently with a lot of disinformation and about a million dollars a day.
What is so offensive about a public option? The word “public” maybe? Too people-y perhaps. Conjures up images of sick people and thats a drag and a distraction to the insurance industry. They need to stay focused, keep their eye on the prize and think of all that money. Why should they compete when its been smooth sailing for them. Profits over people – despicable greed. May wise and calmer heads prevail.
Remember the days of ‘by the people for the people’? People – a beautiful and quaint notion.
I’ve attached a link to a poignant cartoon by Mark Fiore. Amen my brother.
P.S. I like the reference to Soylent Green! Funny.
