I have been playing around with my little band saw, sawing out shapes to use for painted wood pieces. Kind of a hybrid between 2d and 3d. Maybe 2 1/2d. Its been kind of fun, if not a little noisy, and a little frustrating when I spent a half a day just trying to change the saw blade to a smaller one to make the curves. There is the tension and blade alignments to work out, I now know. After some wrangling and a couple broken saw blades, I think I’ve figured it out. The Blue Punk Bunny shown in this post is the first shape I sawed out. I made his little baby face out of paperclay. Anyway, so that’s what I’ve been up to this past few days.

I went to the dollar store today and bought out their supply of cosmetic sponges. They are a dense foam and the best for blending oil paints, I think anyway. The woman at the counter, heavily made up said to me, “Well Darling, Bless your heart. Do you know that mascara is also on sale?” Easily distracted, I said no and went and picked one up. I haven’t worn mascara in years, because I cant see my eyes close up without my reading glasses on. I remembered this when I got home and tried to put some on. I wondered, why did I buy this again? Lets see, I was buying some sponges to paint with . . . . . Anyway, I love it when people use the endearment “Bless your heart”, it’s a charming sentiment. It made me buy mascara.
Shall we dance? I’ve always loved Jo El Sonnier’s version of Jole Blon, but I found this version by Harry Choates in 1946 and loved it too. Great vintage video.
O.K. so it’s been a while since I posted. I’m finding it a challenge to keep up with all the cyber gardens I’ve planted. Maybe it’s my generation. I’ll be 53 next month and I didn’t grow up with computers, spent my childhood years building tree forts well into my twenties. The time I spent staring at a screen usually had Lucille Ball or Andy of Mayberry on it – and there was no interaction. You just sat and watched. I’ve always been kind of a social nitwit and now I have a new venue to show off my social nitwitting skills. It’s kind of like talking to yourself in cyberspace.
I just like making stuff, it’s what makes me happy and keeps me interested. Sometime if I’m lucky people give me a little money for the stuff I make and I”m always grateful to them for it. They keep me from uttering the words, “Do you want fries with that” day in and day out. Most of the time anyway and sometimes not.
So here is some of the stuff I made this week. This doll is listed on Ebay and the auction ends tonight. So far nary a bid has been cast for her and I do believe she deserves more respect than that. So hurry on down and check her out today! There is also another respectable doll who is standing there bidless on Ebay today.
Also these two paintings are listed on Ebay and the auction ends next Sunday for them. I will be listing another tonight. Just think, their eyes can be following you around your living room, so hurry on down and cast your bids folks! Just click on the Ebay auctions link to the right of this page.
