Fun with my new Olympus Pen

August 30th, 2010 — 5:36pm

I bought an Olympus Pen a couple of weeks ago and it’s pretty cool.  I’ve never made a video before and I did this one using my new camera and iMovie on my Mac.  When I uploaded it to YouTube, the first half of the beading part went missing!  Poof, gone.  Probably something I did, but maybe it’s just as well because it might have been too boring.  Divine intervention.  I’m leaving it up for a while anyway, because it’s my first video attempt and a learning experience.  Also the piece I’m supposed to be working on is off camera for part of it, ha!  Strange to see myself in a video, how goofy.  Self promotion has never been my forte, still occasionally I give it a try.  You’ve gotta.

I also can make a bracelet to order with your stone centerpiece or just colors requested and I’ll get the stones.  Prices for a bracelet range between $300. – $600. depending upon the materials used and the complexity of the piece.  Contact me for custom beaded necklaces as well,  ranging in price from $200. – $1,000, through the contact me page of this site or through my Etsy Jewelry shop.  Below are some bracelets I’ve sold recently on Etsy, click on each image for a larger view.

If you’d like to leave a comment, that would be great.   Just scroll down a bit to find the comment box.  Don’t know why it’s doing that and I’m too tired right now to figure it out!

Jesse Reno’s painting process

August 14th, 2010 — 7:55am

I love Jesse Reno’s paintings and I found this new stop animation video of his painting process intriguing.  There is no standing around staring at a blank white canvas for this guy!  He just starts laying down color, sometimes collaged elements and sometimes covering them up and using a variety of media to do it.  Eventually an image reveals itself to him.  The stop animation film documents four completed paintings and music by the artist as well.  About 20 minutes long.

(For some reason couldn’t get the video to post here, but click the link below to view)

Hot,itchy and new paintings/dolls

"Myrtle"

I have a couple of new paintings and dolls on Ebay and Etsy this week.  You can find them by clicking the links to the right of this page.

It has been pretty hot this summer and it’s the first summer that I have been having poison ivy in various places on a continuous loop.  Never had a problem with it before, but seems to be this summers theme. Hot and itchy, but could be worse and I’ve got the calamine lotion for it.  Glass half full.

May the rest of your summer be pleasantly cool and itchless.

Morning Glories

July 19th, 2010 — 1:49pm

Heavenly Blues

Three weeks or so ago I was lucky to have seen Iris Dement at the Grey Eagle in Asheville, I’ve been a fan for a long time.  She sang a bunch of her own new songs that I really liked, none of which can be found on CD yet although rumor has it that a cd will be released sometime this year.  This Morning Glory song is one that really stood out for me.  She played piano as well as guitar and while some people preferred the guitar accompaniment, the songs done on piano reminded me of part dance hall saloon, part tent revival and had that certain campy charm that is unique to Iris Dement.  Never thought I could learn something about myself from a Morning Glory flower.

This video clip I found on YouTube was not from the concert I attended, but from one in Ohio last year that someone posted.  The only one I could find of this song.  It’s a little wobbly, but gets better.  It sounded like she had a bad cold while telling the story in the beginning, then when she sings this amazing clear Iris Dement voice appears!

I was inspired to do a portrait painting of somebody’s mother  on a porch admiring her Heavenly Blues.  Not sure who it is, she showed up out of my head somewhere.

Hope you have a great week filled with quiet moments.

Transylvania Arts Council Show

June 28th, 2010 — 9:25am

I’ve been busy getting some pieces together for a little show I’m doing in Brevard, NC put on by the Transylvania Arts Council.  I’ll be showing dolls and paintings/collages.  I have an assortment of nearly 30 dolls, some wood carved some cloth and paperclay all mixed media.

Shown here are some finished dolls and some unfinished dolls and small paintings.  I am particularly fond of the the fish wife doll.  She is wood carved and so is her fish, also I like the unfinished karaoke singer painting so far.

Hope Saturday is not a scorcher.  It’s been a tad on the steamy side, which is usually fine with me for a bit until I have to pitch a heavy craft show tent on pavement.  Brings me around to recognizing the beauty of selling online!  SO much better,  still, Brevard is a lovely little town and I’ve done well at that show before.  Looking forward to participating, wish me luck.

And good luck in all your endeavors as well.
